On her wedding day a bride is looked at more closely than anyone else: in the frame, in the first row, in the light of candles and flashes. Earrings sit closest to the face, which is why they, more than any other piece of jewellery, work hardest on the gaze and on the photographs. At BELLER we design bridal earrings to lead light towards the face and to stay with the bride long after the wedding. Below we share the three rules we follow in the atelier: hair, neckline and the colour of the dress, and then how to choose the size and cut of the diamond.
Why are earrings the most important jewellery for a bride?
Earrings are the jewellery closest to the face, so they decide how a bride looks up close and in photographs. A natural diamond set by the ear catches every movement of the head and reflects light straight towards the cheek, brightening the features. A ring is seen when you offer your hand, but earrings work without pause, through the whole ceremony and the shoot. That is why we treat them as the starting point of the entire bridal set, not an accessory chosen last. Well chosen, they later become a favourite piece for years, worn long after the wedding.

How to match earrings to your hair: updo or loose?
Your hairstyle decides how much of the earring is seen, so you choose it inversely to the amount of exposed neck. With an updo, a bun or sleek hair the ear is fully visible, so it will carry an expressive diamond, a longer form or a delicate drop. With loose hair the earring appears and disappears in the frame, so a stronger, luminous point works better, for example a single diamond that flashes between the strands. If a veil covers the ears for part of the ceremony, a stud is the safe choice, because it looks equally good covered and revealed. It is the first thing we check at a fitting.
How does the neckline of the dress decide the length of the earrings?
The neckline sets the vertical line along which the earring should sit so that it does not compete with the dress. With a straight or carmen neckline, or with bare shoulders, longer earrings work beautifully, because they close the exposed space between the ear and the collarbone. A dress with a high neckline, a jabot or lace at the throat asks for a compact form, a stud or a short setting that stays out of the fabric's way. A deep V neckline, in turn, loves an earring with an elongated cut that repeats the direction of the neckline. The point is for the jewellery to lead the eye, not to rival the cut.
Which colour of gold suits a white or an ecru dress?
You match the colour of gold to the temperature of the white of the dress, not the other way round. A cool, snowy white and dresses with a sheen pair best with white gold, which underlines the icy brilliance of the diamond and does not warm the frame. Warm shades of ecru, ivory and champagne combine beautifully with yellow or rose gold, because they share the same soft light in the fabric and in the metal. Every one of our designs is made in three colours of gold, white, yellow and rose, so we match the shade to the specific dress in person. It is a detail that makes an enormous difference in photographs.

0.30, 0.60 or 1.60 ct on the ear: how to choose the size of the diamond?
You choose the size of the diamond to the proportions of the face and the character of the dress, not to one fashionable number. A delicate stud of around 0.30 ct brightens the face discreetly and suits subtle, minimalist brides as well as richly decorated dresses that do not want their attention taken away. A stone of around 0.60 ct on the ear is a clear, yet still elegant accent that reads beautifully in half close up photographs. A diamond of 1.00 ct and larger, up to 1.60 ct, is a deliberate statement, best with a plain dress and an updo. Every diamond above 0.30 ct receives its own GIA certificate, while smaller stones come with a BELLER authenticity certificate stating colour and fineness.
Studs, pear or emerald cut: which to choose for a bride?
The cut decides the character of the sparkle, so you choose it to how the bride wants to look in the frame. A stud with a round diamond gives the liveliest, most sparkling brilliance and is the safest, timeless choice that will never age. A pear introduces gentle movement and visually lengthens, working beautifully with a bare neck. An emerald cut, stepped and calm, gives an effect of clean, architectural flashes and underlines a modern, minimal dress, but it asks for higher clarity, because it does not forgive a flaw. In our atelier we select and set each of these cuts to order, matched to your face.
Why should bridal earrings come with a certificate and last for years?
Bridal earrings are worth treating as an emotional investment, because they stay with you far longer than the dress. We work exclusively with natural diamonds in D-E colour and VVS1 clarity, selected for the highest colour and clarity, so the stone is truly clean and white, not only by name. Every stone above 0.30 ct has a GIA certificate, from the most recognised independent gemmological laboratory in the world. The earrings are made by hand in our own atelier in Warsaw, in 585 or 750 gold, which is why they serve for generations and can be passed on. It is jewellery for a lifetime, not for a single day.
How to choose and order bridal earrings at the BELLER atelier?
Earrings are easiest to choose at a fitting, where you see the stone and the colour of gold against your skin and, if you wish, against a trial hairstyle. In our boutiques in Warsaw at Mokotowska 71 and in Krakow at Szczepanska 9 we will show the Bridal collection and a wider choice of diamond earrings, and set several sizes side by side. Within full personalisation we will design earrings to measure, choosing the cut, the size of the stone and the colour of gold, matched to the neckline and the hair. You can arrange a fitting through our contact page, with no obligation.
